AhlulBayt News Agency: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has condemned Israel’s targeting of residential areas, calling it a serious and blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement on Saturday, Baqaei described Israel’s actions as an “egregious act of aggression” against Iran.
He stated that Israeli forces carried out coordinated missile and drone strikes, hitting residential neighborhoods, civilian infrastructure, and nuclear facilities that are under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards.
Baqaei emphasized that these attacks constitute a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.
He further noted that one particularly devastating Israeli strike on a residential building resulted in the deaths of 60 civilians, including 29 children.
The Israeli military launched a series of airstrikes overnight on Friday, targeting locations in and around Tehran as well as other Iranian cities.
In a major escalation, Israeli forces also struck residential buildings in Tehran and its surrounding areas.
Additionally, Israeli forces carried out targeted assassinations of senior Iranian military officials, including Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, and Major General Hossein Salami, Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
